‘Elsewhere’ is an excavation of a hallucination. Unpacked through field recordings and video, the work collages footage to explode an emotional and deeply subjective experience of time. Architectural motifs become metaphors throughout the work, a set of tunnels allude to a childhood contemplation of the unconscious, a step observed by the artist as a child becomes a threshold, between mediation and the real. There is a reiteration of a window throughout the work that prolongs an idea of observing, of seeing and being seen, collapsing to black, as the narrator, the artist, recalls seemingly unrelated memories of his childhood against an experience of mourning.
The voice over was recorded live at Café Oto in London in September 2021, the work originally being presented as a performance.
